Is RCS the next big thing?

Text messaging has changed the way we communicate forever.  This medium has given users the chance to exchange photos, videos, stickers, audio and files, as well as react to received messages and make video calls. RCS (Rich Communication Services) makes all this possible, and now the mobile industry is coming together to bring it to users everywhere!

It is an upgrade to SMS on a global scale. It’s an operator service that will give customers the experience they’ve come to expect from OTTs, natively in their handset. It allows consumers to interact with all of their brands in one place.

Have you ever imagined how easier your life can be when you have all chatting apps’ features built in within your phone messaging?

Here are some examples!

50 mobile operators are currently serving 159 million monthly active RCS users around the globe.

Why RCS?

RCS is a powerful type of A2P text messaging that allows companies to change how to communicate with their customers forever. It provides brands with customer behavioral data normally associated with email and/or web-based campaigns. Hence, it delivers the most impactful and interactive customer experience as it removes the need to use a third party platform.

Ok, that’s all well and good, but will it work?

Most probably yes! It’s going to happen because it is a technological evolution of messaging and voice that delivers a richer user experience.

However, few limitations for both brands and operators arise: since the RCS Universal Profile standards are currently supported on Android devices only. Another disadvantage of RCS could also be the high cost and implementation fees.
